Interactive Fiction is the term that is used to largely describe text-based games. They were all the rage during the 1970s and 1980s. This was at a time when computer power and capabilities were not up to more than what would now be considered primitive and quaint. Even with the advent of VGA level graphics, the resolution and color depth was poor. The void was filled by companies that produced and sold text based games. A leader in the field was Infocom. They brought a game called Zork to market.

We really have to go back even farther in time to work that was driven forward at MIT and certainly not done with profit in mind.

What I have put up in this area are rather historic games from the past. I suggest that you start with the father of them all, [[Adventure]]. Then head over to the [[Infocom]] collection if you wish. There are also a few [[oddballs|odd balls]].
